Thomas Girardi is a founding member of Girardi & Keese LLP. A graduate of Loyola Law school, Girardi has been listed in First Lawyers of America . He was the president of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers as well as national president of the American Board of Trial Advocates. The list of Goliaths Girardi has taken on over the years includes some of California's biggest firms, including Lockheed Corp. (now the Lockheed Martin Corp.) and Pacific Gas & Electric Co.

A senior partner at Morrison & Foerster LLP, James Brosnahan, Jr. was inducted into the State Bar of California's Trial Lawyers Hall of Fame in 1996. He was named Legend of the Law by the Lawyer's Club of San Francisco in 2002, and was awarded the William J. Brennan Jr. Award from the University of Virginia Trial Advocacy Program in 2003. Brosnahan has had over 137 trials, representing clients like the City of Oakland/County of Alameda , El Paso Corp. and Altera Corp. Brosnahan also authored the Trial Handbook for California Lawyers.

The award is presented as part of a two day annual symposium presented by Loyola Law School 's Civil Justice Program, which seeks to focus public attention on the civil justice system.
The Civil Justice Program at Loyola Law School Los Angeles is made possible by the support of the Consumers Attorneys Public Education Fund, a program of the Consumers Attorneys Association of Los Angeles; the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel; the American Board of Trial Advocates; Daniels Fine Israel & Shonbuch, LLP; the Southern California chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates; and a generous anonymous donor.
