Gerrymandering and a Fair Election Playing Field: California and the Nation
Join the Aspen Institute Justice & Society Program for a morning discussion on political gerrymandering, both in California specifically and the United States in general, featuring Professor Justin Levitt of Loyola Law School.
Gill v. Whitford, the Wisconsin political gerrymandering lawsuit, may be the biggest case before the US Supreme Court this term. If advocates prevail, the way that voting districts are set up in the US will be transformed, ultimately affecting the balance of power in the US. California was ahead of the nation in reforming how its election district boundaries are determined with its California Citizens’ Redistricting Commission. Join us as national and California experts discuss this politically charged legal issue.
