5:30 Doors Open • 6:00 Award Reception • 6:45 Program

Practitioners, advocates, and impacted community members will review the criminalization of mental illness in LA County, including its historical context, and discuss a roadmap for treatment-based alternatives to incarceration in Los Angeles. Speakers will answer: How did we come to rely on the criminal legal system to address mental illness? Why are such policies in need of change? How can we transform existing practices and move toward non-carceral solutions to a public health issue?
